Expanses of Daugava in Winter

Description

Oil on cardboard, 36x46,5 cm, 1965 /// The painter Edgars Vinters (1919-2014) was one of the representatives of classical Latvian landscape painting. He masterfully captured the local nature and the seasons in his paintings. A panoramic landscape with a winter and Daugava River motif. The foreground and central part of the composition consist of areas of snow depiction. In the background, the classic depiction of the Daugava River arches and a calm, gloomy winter season sky. The shapes of the depicted objects are modelled with brushstrokes. The same intensity prevails in using colours, thus achieving the unity of all elements of nature. The painting is made of smoothed, individual brush strokes, highlighting the specifics of the brush pattern in some areas. The artist’s signature and dating are on the lower left.
