Spring Evening
Description
1981, oil on cardboard, 47x67 cm /// The style of painter Edgars Vinters (1919–2014) is characterised by a blend of realism and impressionism. The spring evening serves as a motif in the landscape, where the themes of Latvian nature and the changing seasons are explored. The artwork is characterised by a clear and comprehensible structure of composition. The foreground consists of a wide plain, followed by trees in the central part, and, successively, the sky and forest in the background. The depiction of the evening mood is achieved through the reflection of the setting sunlight in the foliage of the trees and in the sky. The painting is created with soft brushstrokes, and the paint is applied in several layers, modelling the volume of objects and the texture of their surfaces. The shapes of the objects are modelled with small individual brushstrokes, reminiscent of the technique typical of Impressionist painting. In the colour palette, the use of purple, orange, and brown predominates. /// The artist's signature and date are on the lower right side of the painting.
