The Concert
Description
Watercolour on paper, 77x120,5 cm, /// Kārlis Siliņš (1958) was born into the family of the painter Herberts Siliņš (1926–2001). He’s artistic style is diverse, there can be seen interest in cubism, expressionism, experiments with different techniques and textures. Bold use of colour. In the paintings thematic dominates stylized depictions of nature, figural compositions, still life, some portraits, travel impressions and personal view of events and the world. One of the painting of a series of jazz musicians. Stands out that it’s created in the watercolour technique, thus giving the artwork a smoothed and matte texture. Created in the Expressionism manner with dynamic lines and expressive images, bringing to work the atmosphere of a jazz music concert. The composition is kept in a minimal colour palette with an emphasis on warm browns and achromatic tones. Expressed use of lines. The main images are stylized and zoomed to the surface; the background is abstracted with separate fragments of musical instrument elements.
