Panorama of Riga
Description
1979, oil on cardbord, 80x100 cm (with frame 82,5x102,5x3,5 cm) /// Valdis Bušs (1924–2014) is one of the most prominent and expressive Latvian landscape painters, celebrated for his rich use of colour and distinctive, dynamic approach. The painting created in the late 1970s. It stands out with its thematic, because in the works of Bušs the panorama of Riga is depicted less often than small town scenes. The classic and well-known view of the Riga is surrounded by a picturesque whirlpool of colours. The composition is created with strong contrasts of colours and a dynamic brushwork that appears in the depiction of the sky, that also resonates in the reflection of the water surface. In the middle of the painting are composed the silhouettes of Old Riga church towers coloured in bright burgundy. The artwork is reproduced in the e-book “On the Bright Side of Life. Valdis Bušs” and in both the e-book and physical book “Krāsa un gaisma. Valdis Bušs,” authors: Līga Baņķiere and Ieva Trillo, published by LLC Art Platz, Riga, 2024. /// The artist's signature and date are located on the lower right side of the painting.
