Talsi

1989, oil on cardbord, 100x85 cm (with frame 102,5x87,5x3,5 cm) /// Valdis Bušs (1924–2014) is one of the most prominent and expressive Latvian landscape painters, celebrated for his rich use of colour and distinctive, dynamic approach. The painting was created in the late 1980s. Scenes of small towns in Kurzeme were another theme that often appeared in Bušs' creative work. The painting shows a view of Talsi's old town street with the church silhouette in the background. The composition is made in the artist's characteristic fragmentary manner. The combination of colour contrasts and brushstrokes gives the composition a certain decorativeness and rhythm. /// The artist's signature and date are on the lower left side of the painting.
