1970s, oil on cardbord, 85x100 cm (with frame 87,5x102,5x3,5 cm) /// Valdis Bušs (1924–2014) is one of the most prominent and expressive Latvian landscape painters, celebrated for his rich use of colour and distinctive, dynamic approach. According to the shapes modelling, this particular composition belongs to the Bušs’ creative period of the 1970s. A panoramic and expressive view of Rezekne. Latgale is the artist’s native side, and its motifs persist in the artist’s paintings. Decorative-coloured trees are depicted in the foreground and the depth of the painting. In the central part, a dense and stylized representation of architecture is united by using purple contours. The sky area is formed with a certain dramatism by the selected colour and extended strokes. In the background is depicted the silhouette of one of the city’s most monumental buildings – the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. /// The artwork is reproduced in the e-book “On the Bright Side of Life.
