1991, oil on canvas, 80x60 cm (with frame 82,5x62,5x3,5 cm) /// Valdis Bušs (1924–2014) is one of the most prominent and expressive Latvian landscape painters, celebrated for his rich use of colour and distinctive, dynamic approach. The work of art created in the early 1990s. In the painting, the artist offers the viewer his own individual observation of the place. The title of the work and the street view with private houses bring an atmosphere of isolation and apartness. Unlike most works where shapes are modelled using smaller and individual brushstrokes, this shows stroke elongation and verticality. Object shapes are marked with a black outline. The use of black in the representation of the sky with wide light areas in the foreground creates an expressive contrast. /// The artist's signature and date are on the lower left side of the painting. The artwork is reproduced in the e-book “On the Bright Side of Life. Valdis Bušs” and in both the e-book and physical book “Krāsa un gaisma. Valdis Bušs,” authors: Līga Baņķiere and Ieva Trillo, published by LLC Art Platz, Riga, 2024.
