Daugava River

1968, oil on cardboard, 74x94 cm /// The style of painter Edgars Vinters (1919–2014) is characterised by a blend of realism and impressionism. A landscape with Daugava River motif, that is one of the symbols of Latvia. An elevated viewpoint has been chosen for the composition structure, which enhances the panoramic aspect of the landscape and adds it a monumentality. In the representation used already established local landscape traditions: on the left side the shoreline, but on the right side a depiction of a calm water surface. In colour palette used warm earth tones and dusty-blue. In brush work technique used smoothed and soft strokes highlighting the brush pattern is some places. /// The artist’s signature and date are on the lower right side of the painting.
