1987, ink, nib pen on paper, 52x50 cm /// Kārlis Dobrājs (1943) is one of the classics of Latvian painting. His style is characterized by the quality of the academic drawing, and the emphasis is placed on the form and volume. The artist has also worked in manual graphics – he created book illustrations and a series of ink drawings. Nude is one of the painting genres dominating Dobrājs' creative work. He has developed his permanent canon of representation of the female image. The nudes created by the artist are saturated with feminine sensuality, and the shape of the body is made emphatic and firm. Specific character and mood are given to the image. The drawing is made in the ink technique with an accent on the line and the interplay of black and white areas creating depth and spaciousness. /// The artist’s signature and dating are on the lower left side.
