Sunflowers

Description

1999, oil on cardboard, 66,5x88 cm /// Edgars Vinters (1919-2014) is known as a Latvian landscape and still life painter. His style is characterized by following the tradition of Realism and Impressionism. He studied at the Art Academy of Latvia and his lecturers were under the classics of Latvian painting of the 20th century. His works have been exhibited at the Roy Miles Gallery in London, and his flower paintings were once purchased by Diana, Princess of Wales at a charity auction. The particular painting is a still life composition with blooming sunflowers arranged in a vase. The flowers are brought closer to the surface of the painting, thus accentuating the depicted objects. The background is made neutral. The painting is designed with wavy soft and separate brushstrokes. Emphasis is also placed on the use of colour, creating an even transition from a lighter foreground, which gradually darkens in the background. Decorativeness is given by using purple and green, contrasting with the yellow flowers. /// The artist’s signature and date are located on the lower right side of the painting.
