At the Small Jugla River
Description
1981, oil on cardboard, 47x67 cm /// Edgars Vinters (1919–2014) was a consistent landscape painter. His creative work is characterised by capturing the local Latvian nature in elegant oil paintings. His style is similar to the tradition of Realism and Impressionism. The motif of the river is quite persistent in Vinter’s paintings. In this particular work of art is depicted the Small Jugla River. The composition is created in the stylistic manner typical of Vinters', the artist consistently follows the tradition of drawing clarity and realism in his work. On the other hand, this work shows more artistic expressiveness, which is demonstrated by the blurred outlines of depicted objects. The volume is built of small and loose brushstrokes and variations in the thickness of the paint layer. The foreground is occupied by the representation of water, its surface is made with smoother brushstrokes, thus achieving textural contrasts between the depicted elements of nature. The expressiveness of the artwork is also enhanced by the active and bright colour. /// The artist’s signature and date are on the lower right side of the painting.
