Tranquil Daugava River

Description

1964, oil on cardboard, 46x66,5 cm /// Edgars Vinters (1919–2014) was a consistent landscape painter. His creative work is characterised by capturing the local Latvian nature in elegant oil paintings. His style is similar to the tradition of Realism and Impressionism. The motif of the river is quite persistent in Vinter’s paintings. The painting depicts the summer season by the specificity of the depicted objects and the exact dating of the painting. The painting is characterized by a classic and understandable structure of the composition with a separated foreground, central part, and background. Especially is emphasised the depiction of the sky with dynamically formed clouds and their reflection on the calm water surface. In brushstroke technique dominates both: smoothed and individual strokes thus achieving a representation of the materiality of depicted objects of nature. /// The artist’s signature and date are on the lower left side of the painting.
