2022, oil on canvas, 91,5x101 cm /// The artistic style of Kārlis Dobrājs (1943), one of the classics of Latvian painting, is distinguished by the precision of academic drawing, a strong emphasis on form and volume, and a nuanced use of colour. An atmospheric painting of a winter landscape with a low horizon line and a broad depiction of the sky; highlighted the representation of clouds and their volumized shape modelling. The choice of colours dominates the cool tones with delicate tonal transitions. The artwork was created at the end of 2022 and was exhibited for the first time at the painter’s 80th anniversary exhibition in February 2023 at the “Art Platz” gallery in Riga. /// The artist’s signature and date are on the lower right.
