By the Lake

2002, oil on canvas, 70x90 cm (with frame 72,5x92,5x3,5 cm) /// Valdis Bušs (1924–2014) is one of the most vivid Latvian landscape painters – colourists. A rich colour palette and expressive texture characterize his works. Bušs’ art reveals the diversity and richness of nature, creating an emotionally charged interpretation of the landscape. In the painting “By the Lake”, the central focus of the composition is a group of decorative trees radiating a yellow glow, forming a mosaic-like pattern in various shades of yellow. The intensity of the colours is enhanced by the bright blue sky in the background and the lake’s water surface in the foreground, where white, orange, and light blue brushstrokes are visible.
