The First Snow in Autumn

Description

1995, oil on cardboard, 66x92 cm (with frame 85x110x2 cm) /// The Latvian painter Edgars Vinters (1919–2014) can be called a lyrical landscape painter who captured the changing moods of nature in his works. In his painting, “The First Snow in Autumn”, the artist masterfully depicts a moment of transition in nature, capturing a Latvian landscape at a time when the golden autumn foliage has not yet entirely fallen. Still, the ground is already covered with the first light snow. The colour palette is dominated by warm yellow and golden tones, which contrast with the cool white snow and the blue sky. Vinters’ characteristic, free brushstrokes give the work dynamism and liveliness, creating the feeling that the sun’s rays are breaking through the bare tree branches and reflecting on the snowy ground. Vinters’ landscape paintings evoke a meditative mood and inner peace, a feature that is characteristic of his work. /// The artist’s signature and date are located on the lower left side of the painting.
