Pine Branches. Winter

2017, oil on canvas, 35x27,5 cm (with frame 39x31,5x2 cm) /// The Latvian painter Kārlis Siliņš (1958) style is recognisable by expressive use of colour, dynamic intensity and freedom of form. His works characterise simplified and stylised shapes enriched with ornamental brushstroke patterns. As central motifs, Siliņš often chooses individual elements of nature, extracting them from a broader natural context and transforming them into symbolic signs – creating a link between the particular and the universal, between the visible and the imagined. The painting “Pine Branches. Winter” reveals itself as a still-life composition that simultaneously resonates with the atmosphere of a landscape – the calm winter mood and the presence of the pine forest. /// The artist’s signature is located on the lower left side of the painting.
