1979, oil on cardboard, 85x100 cm ( with frame 87,5x102,5x3,5 cm) /// One of painter Valdis Bušs’ (1924–2014) recurring and much-loved motifs was a tree-lined avenue, around which the other compositional elements are arranged to form the painting’s central focus. The painting is created in a warm colour palette of deep yellows, orange-pinks and browns, balanced by subtle grey areas. People with umbrellas introduce a sense of movement and evoke the mood of rainy city streets. The yellow tones become a symbol of autumn light, while Bušs’ expressive brushwork and rhythmic composition convey the impression of nature and humanity merging into a single harmonious rhythm.
