2007, oil on cardboard, 65x85 cm (with frame 83x103x5 cm) /// Edgars Vinters (1919–2014) – a Latvian landscape and still-life painter, in whose artistic practice floral compositions also hold an important place. In the still life “Asters”, the artist depicts a rich bouquet of autumn flowers, dominated by asters in various shades – violet, pink, and white. The body of flowers forms a dense, pulsating field of colour that contrasts with the calmer, greyish-green background. Two vases are balanced within the composition, lending the work stability while preserving a sense of freedom in the arrangement of the flowers. A free, slightly impasto brushstroke and the layering of colour give the painting vitality, emphasising its richness. /// The artist’s signature and date are located on the lower right side.
