Regatta in Liepāja

2017, oil on canvas, 35x65 cm (with frame 42,5x72,5x2 cm) /// Valērijs Baida (Valery Bayda, 1958) is a painter whose body of work centres largely on cityscapes, sea and water motifs, and still life. His style is marked by loose brushwork and a clear, pure palette. This work depicts the harbour of Liepāja with sailboats moored in anticipation of a regatta – the verticals of the masts and rigging contrast with the harbour’s horizontal lines, while the warm evening light lends the scene vitality and the immediacy characteristic of a plein air sketch. /// The artist’s signature is located in the lower right corner of the painting.
